Government press release: New asthma book updates treatment?
See press release below and at: http://tinyurl.com/y77x9g

Yet another example of government funding operating in isolation to
produce yet another duplicative paper & non-standard electronic resource!

There is a link on the press release page for which you provide the URL
(above), labelled
"PDF printable version of New asthma book updates treatment" which I was
expecting to take me to a downloadable PDF version of the new asthma book, but no, it
takes me to a PDF version of the press release! There doesn't appear to be any link to a
PDF version of the actual book, let alone a copy in a more computable electronic form for
use in DSS, as you mention. Sigh.

Why O why in this day and age cannot the government &/or NEHTA provide competitive funding to stimulate information providers such as the National Asthma Council, Therapeutic Guidelines, AMH, NPS, etc, to GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER and provide ONE integrated [or linked], best practice electronic resource [in a standard format] that could be readily embedded as a decision support resource in GP & hospital prescribing [& dispensing] software?

I agree - contestible funding for the production of such resources, with one of
the selection criteria being how the applicants intend to make the final
products available in standards-conformant or otherwise readily-computable
form, and at teh very least in HTML as well as PDF forms (but ideally XML etc
as well).
