I know it runs quite well on Linux. All I'm saying is it is not universal
- won't run on all software / hardware like Open Office will.

I use Gimp on my other computer running Ubuntu Linux. great program.

I downloaded Gimp, but it won't install on a XP-pro machine with hyper

Thus the message is that like MS products, these products don't always work

on all platforms. Don't get me wrong, I like OO and use it at work on 1 PC

and at home have loaded it on kids PC.

I think Scribus is a bit like the Gimp. Fantastic software but the

professionals use what they know and what they were trained on.

This years computer graphic art competition in Germany (Spiegel) was won by

an

outsider artist by unanimous decision of the jury - who was gobsmacked when

they learned that the much acclaimed work of art was created with the Gimp,

of which nobody in the Jury ever heard before. Certainly stirred the CG

community in Europe up a bit

While the user interface is more refined in programs like Photoshop, the

almost infinite power of the Gimp's scripting interface unleashes

possibilities unheared of in commercial programs for those artisist with a

bit of computer know how and willingness to learn.

I think Scribus is not quite in the same league yet, but it seems developing

in huge leaps with a very active and ethusiastic community
