Hello Oliver,
That's correct, only one messaging company supports individual token
PKI signatures for referrals and that's Medical-Objects.
Argus has developed a digital signing component which is going into
production in NT next week supporting the transmission of prescriptions
from GPs to pharmacies for Aged Care Facilities. This project has
involvement of DoHA and Medicare Australia people, so we are ensuring
that it meets their requirements.
This generalised digital signing component was designed to be 'open
source' and re-usable and it is aimed that this will be available as a
web service for other software providers to use. We will implement it
into referral messages etc first thing in the new year.
It doesnt currently implement signing in the way that MO have done
because we had a few problems with the applicability of their methods in
a more generalised environment. However having said that, in the
interests of compatibility, we are reviewing the MO method and will work
to collaborate with them and NeHTA (and Standrads Aust if necessary) in
moving towards a common method. So before deploying any single method,
I expect that the main players should have agreed on a compatible method.
Ross,
As a certified Argus Installer, A Division IM&T person, and a support
contractor, I've also used MO on a test basis courtesy of Andrew, and
I've found the individual key functionality very good.
Going down a similar path, subject to 'standards', seems like a wise
idea, but as impressive as Andrew's key functionality is, I think we are
still a ways of building the scale and momentum for adoption of their
widespread use in the way that Medicare law and RACGP standards have
mandated for clinical/referral purposes.
I look forward to the day when an Argus user can send/receive stuff with
a MO, or other software user, just the same as I can send an E-mail
message to anyone, regardless of their brand of software.
