The only benefits I can see of sending electronic referrals are:

1.pt turns up to specialist having forgotten theirs -can resend direct. (can
also fax after printing the forest)

can't you fax direct from the computer fliss ?

2.need appt for ie Paed Outpts clinic, or Adolescent Pysch clinic etc - either
routine or urgent appt, they ALWAYS want the referral faxed to them first
to be put onto 'Consideration For Appts' pile for the next Appts Committeee
meeting. (these meetings and lists are common for serious cardiothoracic
surgery-ask me about that sometime:(
-In this second instance have referrals printed straight to the specialist
will be a great bonus, ie one copy for Argus, paper copy for pt to take when
they finally deem to make the appointment for them. They will not even consider
an appt until they receive the referral first.

good point

3. The odd forgotten path/radiology referral when pts turn up, are another
good reason to have this available.
