Horst, I'm not talking of shared printers.  I'm talking of a dedicated
network printer.  Connected to no PC - but directly to a Hub or router.

guess Vista is closer, but still no cigar.

With newer distriutions of Linux, you don't even have to click anything
(like 
OS/X) - they find shared printers in my home network automatically, and no 
drivers needed since anything is converted into postscript and only on the 
print server it gets translated into the printers own language.
