Title: Mr Mach MedTech Global Limited
James,

I share Russel's frustration about being forced to do major upgrades after hours. Argus has the same problem, which is caused by a deficiency in Interbase. There is simply no elegant way to disconnect all users before performing tasks as drastic as making structural changes to database tables. All users of Interbase will face this problem. That means ZMed, Argus, Medtech, Profile AFAIK. For what it's worth, users of Microsoft SequelServer don't have this problem...

Dear Mr Clarke

Thank you for your time you and your staff have taken to respond to my letter. All users of medtech software and I want you, your company to take actions to help users of Medtech software, continue to drive required development of an important tool we use in our medical practices and importantly provide the support we pay for.

30.  Inability to apply most required software patches and upgrades during business hours.

***  Some MT32 updates can be applied during business hrs whilst a user is logged into MedTech.  These updates are those that only populate information into the database ie: MIMS, MBS, RMFS, ICPC updates. Other updates provided by MedTech involve changes to the database structure and also to the exes that make up the application themselves. This means that the risk of a user accessing related exes during the installation as well as referencing them from another part of the application is extremely high, and as such the likely hood of the update failing increases as it will not have access to the exe to be able to change it whilst a user  is accessing it.  Database structure changes are major to anyones data and if the user is logged in and using any  part of the database whilst a structure change is being made there is a potential for loss of data as well as a corrupt database to occur.  A lot  of  structure changes involve creating tempory tables to transfer data to and then making a change and moving it back.  This means that if any part of that table is being used it will crash and abort the instal leaving a corrupt database.  The support issues for this outway the benefit of providing such functionality .

Ok, So I am left to install many updates outside business hours and you have announced I must pay extra for support after hours. Hardly seems fair

Regards

James Bishop
