The "E-health Insider Primary care" web site is always a fascinating read to find out what is happening in GP informatics in the UK: - http://www.ehiprimarycare.com/
But their current feature story is about progress with and barriers to GP-to_GP transfer of the complete medical records for a patient: http://www.ehiprimarycare.com/comment_and_analysis/index.cfm?ID=192 Most interesting. In some ways this is made easier and more important in the UK by the fact that patients must register with a single practice (although they can change practices a certain number of times each year). The response to the same issue here and in the US, where primary care is often more fragmented (especially in cities where doctor-hopping/shopping is easy) seems to be the shared community EHR. But I wonder which approach is really best for Oz? Would also solve the problem of patient data being locked in to a vendor's system, should a practice wish to change information systems.
