David More makes a plea on his blog for a simpler, walk-before-we-run shared EHR - see http://aushealthit.blogspot.com/2007/03/shared-ehr-can-it-be-done-simply-and.html
Something not quite so "enterprisey" (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enterprisey ) as what HealthConnect had and NEHTA have in mind. But it would seem that those canny Scots have already done just this in the guise of their shared electronic Emergency Care Summary, at a cost of just 100 million pounds or so, rather less than the billions of pounds budgeted for the more ambitious UK NHS EHR - see http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2006/08/16152132/1 and http://www.nhsborders.org.uk/view_item.aspx?item_id=17821 and http://www.e-health-insider.com/news/item.cfm?ID=1116 and most importantly, the report that the system has gone live and is not just a pipe dream, if you'll pardon the inevitable Highland pun: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/09/01/scotland_launches_ecr/ Tim C _______________________________________________ Gpcg_talk mailing list [email protected] http://ozdocit.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/gpcg_talk
