Yes you do.
Most spammers will bounce return mail, or the return mail address is invalid - 
so it will end up in the administratrs perpetually overflowing mailbox in far 
too many instances where genuine spam is concerned

The other problem with this methd is that my own spam filters would probably 
classify such unsolicited mails from spam arrest as SPAM itself, though I 
never might see that message either, and we can't communicate any more via 
email (deadlocked)

The only solution to spam is legislation with a bite.
It was recently on slashdot that against common assumtions and rumors (that 
spam originates mostly in Asian and Eastern European countries) that the 
absolute majority of spam still originates in the USA, and nearly ALL spam 
that tries to deliberately circumvent anti-spam measures comes from the USA 
too. So legislating a sigle country woudl effectively get rid of the majority 
of spam in this world.
