Banks would not share their Payment System backbone with anybody but another bank, or an institution they own. APRA would not allow it either. I reckon we'll be waiting a long time before, if ever, we are able to integrate.

Food for thought, the only company that makes the EFTPOS devices also makes the devices for the Optus HealthPoint System, and the e-cards for the National Identity Scheme, and the Medicare smart card that can be used in a e-health application.
