Thank you for responding to my post. Is there any other way to make sure,
that the mode bits are up-to-date when applying a policy?
What would happen if a user changed mode bits when the policy that executes
mmputacl is run? Which change will be the result in the end, the mmputacl mode 
bits or chmod
mode bits?

I don't know exactly how suspend-write works.  But I am NOT suggesting that is 
be used lightly.It's there for special situations.  Obviously any process 
trying to change anything in the filesystemis going to be blocked until mmfsctl 
fs resume.   That should not cause a GPFS deadlock, but systems thatdepend on 
GPFS responding may be unhappy...
