Most flash devices use thin provisioning internally.

What is the usage case of using thin provisioning on a GPFS file system? I just can't think of why it would ever be needed or for that matter a good idea. I would personally file it under crazy ideas never to implement in a production system.

Surely you throw everything into the GPFS file system and then overcommit on your quotas. At least that is I would say the philosophy of GPFS.
