Cheers and happy first May everybody (who's celebrating this?!? - it is a celebrating day to welcome the summer in german spoken countries, what about US?).
In the US they mostly speak a dialect form of English, with Spanish being the second most spoken language.
Kidding aside, May 1st is a holiday of some sorts in large parts of the world. Either to welcome summer, or called labour day, or also International Workers Day. I think in large parts of Europe it is still observed in some form or the other. For me, in Holland, though, the only reason I have a day off on May 1st this year is it being on the weekend.
As always, wikipedia seems to know a bit more about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/May_Day
