Hi Patrik, you're absolutely right and in fact it's also planned this way right now. Unfortunately for the Lion version a lot of code has been rewritten and cleaned up, which should male GPGMail more stable, but still needs some work done, before it can be released to the wild. As soon as our testing results show the version is stable enough, not to break people's mail, we'll release it.
If you want in on the alpha version we're glad to include you, otherwise you can also always try to compile a version for yourself based on the latest github code.
