Can you please advise what version of gPodder you are using?
A fix to speed up feed updates was applied to the SVN trunk on the 10-May (see
http://svn.berlios.de/svnroot/repos/gpodder/trunk/ChangeLog) and is available
in version 0.11.3 which you can obtain from SVN and build yourself or grab a
deb from http://www.getdeb.net.
