There are instructions at http://wiki.gpodder.org/wiki/Running_gPodder_from_Git on how you can try out the latest development version without affecting your distro package. You can apply the patch there and see if it works. It would be good if we have feedback this way, so we can roll our patch into the next bugfix release, so it's available to you and to other users of 0.13.x.
