Not wanting to start a flame war here, but could it be that RPM does not have a
mechanism to cleanly support "weak dependencies" like "Recommends:" from DEB?
Current apt versions handle Recommends: so that the recommended packages are
installed by default as dependencies, but removing recommended packages does
not cause the "recommending" package to be removed automatically.

Have a look at the dependencies of gPodder for Debian:

http://packages.debian.org/sid/gpodder

If RPM *does* provide such a feature, maybe we can use it to mark all "optional
runtime dependencies" in the Fedora package?
