Summary: I lose data on upgrade
Product: gPodder
Version: 2.2
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: feature request
Priority: low
Component: Application
AssignedTo: [email protected]
ReportedBy: [email protected]
CC: [email protected]
Twice a year I end up reinstalling gpodder with each new ubuntu release, and
along the way lose the data about episodes which have been
downloaded/listened-to. The application clearly stores a set of data which
includes data about individual episodes which have been downloaded. This table
clearly includes filename and location, status (listened-to or not), and links
to another table of subscriptions. The subscriptions themselves can be
exported as opml files, but the data about which episodes have already been
downloaded/listened to clearly cannot. I tried synchonizing via gpodder.org but
this also only carried over the subscriptions, not the episodes. In practice
this means that I end up missing episodes or having them hanging around my mp3
player for months, as gpodder doesn't list them for me to show as "listened to"
(and therefore deletable on synchronization). I see three possible ways to fix
this:
1. create an extended opml format which would contain the episode status info
or
2. put something like a thumbnail into the subscription folder which would
store the info, and gpodder would take info from there if it doesn't have
anything in its internal database
or
3. automatically import into the gpodder internal database any files which are
located in the subscription folder, but not found in the database (assuming
them to be not-listened-to)
Basically upgrading is currently a hassle, and I think it needn't be...
Thanks
