I sort of understand. But there's another problem, which is related to
consistency (again): the "top-most" podcast is selected by default, regardless
if "Show 'All episodes' in podcast list" is enabled. Being the "top-most" on
the list is just a coincidence, since it's based on alphabetical order. Nothing
else.

That's another reason why selecting "None" upon startup yields the most
consistent approach.

Just to illustrate this point, my "top-most" podcast is actually the least
listened to, but it happens to be on the top only because it starts with an
early letter in the alphabet. So when I launch gPodder, I'm greeted with a list
of episodes for a podcast I don't care for as much as some other subscriptions.

I'm not sure if version 2.10 contains the optimizations, but selecting "All
episodes" still causes gPodder to hang while it loads the list of all episodes.

On the bright side, I'll be "free" starting Thursday. :)
