That's my fault ;) I've chosen some unintelligent arbitrary limit of 50
characters to make sure the file names don't grow endlessly long.

According to [1], file names on FAT32 volumes can be up to 255
characters long, although I also seem to remember reading somewhere that
that's with the leading parts of the filename (i.e. the directory
names). What about increasing the filename length to 200, to leave some
room for the file extension and the leading directory?

Paul: Can you please have a look at the bug tracker and see if there's
something that isn't working?

Thanks,
Thomas
