Hi Becky, if you want to have it super easy, download and install gvSIG OADE 2010:
http://www.oadigital.net/software/gvsigoade When you run the installer, make sure to tick all available extensions, so you get the SEXTANTE and GRASS geoprocessing tools. Full instructions are here: ftp://88.208.250.116/gvSIG_OADE_Installation.pdf A quickstart guide for gvSIG is also available: ftp://88.208.250.116/gvSIG_OADE_Quickstart.pdf ... but surely, someone at your department is already using gvSIG? You can then run a large number of GRASS modules directly via the SEXTANTE graphical user interface. r.cva and r.promincence are already included.
