A nice explanation David, but don't let it deter you from trying out
Grasshopper as a design tool in your kit.

I'm guessing that you (Pax) are the same engineer that's emailed me
about linking Rhino/Grasshopper with structural analysis, or at least
someone close in your office. Regardless, background about me is I'm
a structural engineer in an office that's using Rhino extensively as
part of our design and detailing process. But we're able to utilise
the fact that I was fortunate/unfortunate (depending on your point of
view) to have studied a double degree (as is popular in Australia)
that combined computer science and Structural Engineering. Diving
straight into the object oriented world of programming in dotNet isn't
likely, even with the basic programming in fortran/c etc that is
taught as part of structural engineering, but it should give you a
basis for taking some small steps and creating basic script components
in grasshopper.

There is a very knowledgable and supportive community that use Rhino,
personally I've learnt so much from the newsgroups etc. And I'm sure
you'll find the same if you come to a brick wall whilst you're
developing these things. If you can clearly state your problem, with
as much progress as you've made, I'm sure that others reading will
come to your aid (or suggest maybe that's too big a task until you're
more experienced). Part of the problem might be if it's very project
specific (and you're not comfortable with posting progress online),
that you might have to create simple examples that demonstrate the
problem, but to be honest that will probably help you and anyone
trying to assist you.

I'm certainly happy to try and help however I can, hope you give it a
shot.

Cheers,

Jon
