| As per estimates, the rate of committing suicides in Kerala was 29.6 from one lakh persons which was double that of global rate (14.5) and treble compared to the national rate (
11.2), Dr Sathesh told reporters here on Tuesday. | |||
| He said suicides by families and youth were increasing in the State. Idukki (51 out of one lakh) and Waynad (45.1) were the leading districts while the rate was less in Malappuram district (

| ND Mohan of the Kottayam Medical College called for the wholehearted efforts of the people to fight the menace. | |||
| As a preliminary step a "workshop on suicide prevention" would be held at the college on March 1. | |||
| This is conducted as part of the programme of Kerala integrated scheme for intervention in suicide in association with psychiatry department of the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.
