Custodial torture: complainant's house attacked

Thiruvananthapuram: Nearly 30 persons suspected to owe allegiance to the Left Democratic Front (LDF) reportedly attacked the house of Gireeshan, on whose complaint the police had arrested and allegedly tortured in custody a Dalit woman, on Friday.
On Saturday, the Fort police arrested five persons in connection with the incident from Ambalathara.
They were identified as Suresh, 22, Sudheesh, 23, Pramod, 20, Sivaprakash, 21, and Kiran, 20.
Meanwhile, three women constables attached to the Fort police station have been suspended pending enquiry in connection with the alleged custodial torture.
Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has directed the Inspector General of Police, South Zone, Arun Kumar Sinha, to conduct an enquiry into the allegation of custodial torture.
