Dear Dilip Raj, Appending below a letter I tried to circulate to women's groups mainly & a few others. Not much response, but then Satyagrahis would be expecting that I guess. Do please keep in touch. sincerely yours, Ammu Abraham, Mumbai --------------------------- Friends, We the undersigned are happy to know that there is a group of people in Tvm, who are on Satyagraha to abolish the Death Penalty in India. We are all opposed to the Death Penalty, whatever the alleged crime maybe. We feel that it is very difficult to decide what is or is not 'rarest of rare' crimes, the current criterion for awarding the death penalty. There are no crimes known to human beings which have not been repeated over and over again, through human history. As such, the definition of what is 'rare' may be linked to contemporary socio-political predilictions of streams within a polity. Abolishing death penalty removes the danger of the State taking the life of an accused, who may later be proved innocent. Indian democracy must clear the path for South Asia and abolish the Death Penalty. We condemn the attack on peaceful and non-violent Satyagrahis and commend their courage in withstanding such attacks. In solidarity, Ammu Abraham Women's Centre, Mumbai Shweta Saheli Resource Centre, Delhi Sukla Sen Ekta Rohini Banaji Hensman Insaaniyat, Mumbai -------------------- dtd 21st October 2006, Kerala Friends, Today, a group of yuvamorcha activists entered the satyagraha pandal of anti death penalty committe at trivandrum and assaulted the satyagrahi, Rajmohan K K.
