* Varghese death: former IG's petition dismissed * Staff Reporter the hindu http://www.hindu.com/2006/12/08/stories/2006120804270500.htm * HIGH COURTROUND-UP * KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday dismissed a writ petition filed by the former Inspector-General of Police K. Lakshmana challenging the criminal proceedings initiated against him in connection with the death of Naxalite leader Varghese. The CBI had filed an FIR before the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on the basis of the affidavit of the former police constable, P. Ramachandran Nair. The CBI took over the investigation into the allegation that the Naxalite leader was shot dead by the police in the Thirunelli forest in Wayanad in 1970, following a High Court directive.
