* `Government not responsible for detention of undertrials' * Staff Reporter the hindu 13/01/07 http://www.hindu.com/2007/01/13/stories/2007011310810400.htm * High Courtround-up * KOCHI: The State Government on Friday informed a Division Bench of the Kerala High Court that it was not responsible for detaining the undertrial prisoners in jail for more than the maximum period of punishment prescribed for the offence under which they were charged. The Government said it could not give the compensation to the undertrial prisoners who had been detained in jail for more than the maximum period of punishment.
