THE ECO-LEGAL CAMP ORGANIZED BY INDIAN ASSOCIATION OF LAWYERS AT ATHIRAPPILLY
The highlight of the second day of the camp, is the speech of Dr.V.S.Vijayan, Chairman of Kerala Bio-Diversity Board. He stated that it is high time that the forest area surrounding Athirappilly and Vazhachal, where a large number of near exinct birds and animals, should be declared as protected area. Certain species of fish which are not found anywhere else are found in this area. In Kerala, this is the only place where four types of hornbills are seen. Presence of rare herbals are also seen in Vazhachal area. The governments and people of the country should come forward to preseve and protect natural resources. Lawyers of the nation can play an important role in making the people aware of the issue. Dr.Vijayan stressed the importance of wetlands in managing the water scarcity of our State. An action plan has to be made for this purpose. The government should take initiative in this direction. Advocate K.R.Thampan presided over the function. Advocates K.Mohandas, Adv.A.Jayasankar, Adv.M.Rahmathulla, Adv M.A.Joy, Adv.T.R.Rameshkumar, and Adv.C.T.Sabu spoke on the occasion. murari for Chalakudiriver Protection Forum --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Green Youth Movement" group.
