Please see this forwarded message --------------- Dear All, Myself is Anuja Jain. I am a PhD student at the Department of cinema studies, New York University, New York. As my dissertation topic, I am working on the documentary representations of the sectarian violence, with a focus on the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition, subsequent 1992-93 Bombay riots, and the 2002 Gujarat genocide. The larger objective of my project is to compare the independent documentary representations, in relation to the other visual representations of these cataclysmic moments, such as the TV news coverage by the state owned Doordarshan channel and satellite channels like NDTV, Aaj Tak and Zee News, along with the cinematic representations by the popular Hindi cinema. For the past few months I have been trying to collect the old news bulletins on the DD national, DD Bombay, DD Ahmadabad, NDTV, Aaj tak and Zee news that reported the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition, 1992-93 Bombay riots and the 2002 Gujarat riots. I spent whole of the last summer visiting the Doordarshan news center in Delhi as well as other private channels offices, and could not get anything. Even this summer it is proving to be as difficult. When i contacted the Doordarshan archives in Delhi, they blatantly refused to give me any footage on the grounds that they do not preserve it! The private channels see this footage to be too sensitive to be given out (even for research purposes). Thus, I will be very grateful if any one can give me suggestions about ways to either get this footage or work around this problem of getting the old TV news footage of 1993 Babri Masjid demolition, Bombay riots, and 2002 Gujarat riots? The process is proving to be very difficult and frustrating, and your help will be invaluable. Thanks in advance, Anuja Jain Ph.D. Candidate Cinema Studies Department New York University, New York EMAIL: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------
