Sub: Violent murderous attack on me by a group of campus students
I, undersigned complainer Shaileshkumar B.Makwana, age 30,
Scheduled Cast the performing Arts Ph.D. student, hereby complaining
about the above mentioned subject.
Today on 22nd March 2008, Saturday, when I was going alongwith my
elder brother to leave him at S.T. Depot from my hostel room, a group
of around 20 to 25 students outside the M.A.Hall playing with mud and
dirt, forcibly throwing mud and muddy water on the passers by. Me and
my brother too became victim of this Violent Act of the group. They
threw dirty mud on us. I opposed and requested them not to forcibly
throw mud on passers by. I also reminded them of Commissioner's
notification on not to harm anyone in the name of Dhuleti
Festival.What you are doing is a Legal Offence. In reply they had
given Gaalis on mother and sister and said that " Today is Dhuleti
Festival so nobody can stop us and no Authority can prevent us from
doing this.We are the Kings of Hostel Campus".
So, we left quietly from the place since my brother had to go.
When I was returning back to my room, the same mob again forcibly
threw mud on me with bad words. It was an assault on my Self Dignity
and attack and violation of my Fundamental Right such as Right of
Personal Freedom , to move and live Freely and Safely , as a Citizen
of India assured by The Constitution of India.
So, I came back to my Hostel and tried to contact my Hostel's
warden to complain. Since he was not available I called up on 100 for
Police interference. After that I went to the place , near M.A. Hall
waited there for the Police to come .The student mob saw me standing
there, they again came to me and threw mud on me, abused me with many
bad words and started beating me. I was thrown like a football, kicked
and punched on my chest, stomach, Head, between my legs, face, waist,
rolled, crowled without any reason. Just for the sake of Festivity of
Dhulety they put my life in danger. The mob also robbed my mobile. One
passing by journalist fortunately captured the incidence. I am sending
the copy of that CD to you too so that you can understand the extent
and severity of increasing Group Violence in M.S. University as well
as Hostel Campus.
In the name of religious festival and festivity, forcibly and
violently harmed and attacked an individual is a severe crime of
violation of my Fundamental Rights of Personal Freedom, Self- Dignity
and Right to move Freely and Safely as a Citizen of India. I am a
Research Student. I am against all kinds of violence. If a Ph.D., a
research student can be violently attacked just for the Fun of the Mob
in the name of festivity then what would be the safety of the lives
and Personal Freedom of thousands of students studying and staying in
the Hostels. Inspite of Commissioner's Public Declaration about not to
forcibly harm any individual's Personal Freedom, the Group Violence
promoted within the Campus and University is a Direct violation of my
Personal Freedom as well as Right to live and study safely inside the
Campus. The incidence is a Taint for Maharaja Sayaji Rao University
also.
This is not an isolated incidence but it is a part of
Irresponsibility and ignorance of University authorities to safeguard
the Rights of University students such as Personal Freedom as well as
the Right to live , move and study Freely and Safely.
I am requesting you to immediately intervene in the matter to take
appropriate Legal steps to set an example and to safe guard the
Dignity and Rights of University students as well as the University.
If the authority is not taking steps to prevent such incidence of
violence in the future , then being it my Right of safety and freedom
as a student and question of Self- Dignity, I would fight my battle of
Freedom and safety and Dignity by following the path shown by Gandhiji
of Fasting.
Regarding this I have also complained in Sayajigunj Police
Station, Vadodara.
I also fear further attacks. I am feeling torturous Physical and
Mental suffering continuously. So I request you to take action against
these Anti-Social elements staying in disguise as students.
