Unite against the destructive Athirapilly Hydel Project
Friends, More and more eminent personalities and organisations are joining the agitation against Athirapilly Hydel Project by the day. This is the first time in the history of Kerala that various political parties, cultural organisations, trade union and service organisations, community-based organisations, traders associations along with the environmental activists are coming together for such a vital struggle. Impracticality, unscientific nature and the adverse effects of the project are the reasons why most of the above mentioned associations are participating in this agitation. After prolonged simmering anger of the people the agitation has reached a decisive stage.
Even after the indefinite satyagraha and agitation has crossed three months, the state government is acting ignorant like an ostrich's head buried in the sand. We warn the state government that it will lead to an impending miserable failure if the anger of the people and the writing on the wall is ignored. The state government is given a reminder that it should not lose the opportunity for making a face saving move of scrapping the destructive project.
JALAARAVAM is the convention organised by Chalakudy River Protection Forum and Athirapilly Action Council on 3rd in connection with the 100th day of the agitation. The convention is being held on 3rd and 4th June at S. N. Trust Hall, South Chalakudy.
The anger and protest of various affected and concerned citizens and groups will be reflected in the JALAARAVAM convention. Discussion on corrupt inefficient working of KSEB will also form part of the JALAARAVAM convention. The discussions will be oriented towards evolving an environmental and people friendly electricity policy.
Public meetings, Poet's session, Athirapilly on canvas, Gathering of artists, Student's River Parliament, Documentary film (Water) will be part of JALAARAVAM convention. Literary luminaries, political leaders and
environmental activists from Kerala and beyond will be participating in the convention.
