In institutions where you have different students from different
nationalities studying togther you can always listen each other being
called bongs, mallus etc. While studying at acj, chennai the racially
'opponent' groups were mallus and bongs, though they have *communism* to
share about.

I think the Bongs resisted being called as bongs. Bcoz the ONG in the Bbong
sounded true to the Bhadralokic pomposity. Mallus referred themselves as
Mallus. It sounded like Lalu, rural wit with corporate wisdom. (
speaking tough hindi at IIM).

Bongs behaved as they were direct descendants of Tagore and Ray, even though
they never tried reading or viewing. Mallus were very clever. With their GK
and Current affairs analysis and film viewing culture, they tried to
overwhelm.
Mallus actually appropriated the semantics of the word and made it a cliche.
Now no malayalee have problem in being referred as Mallu.

Perhaps the word originated to reveal the hidden depths of malayali
hypocrisy.

Since this has became a cliche like MCP. A new word has to be derived which
reflects the times. It should incisively points to malayalle male madambi *
Hypocracy* (like aristocracy) sensibilty. What would be that.

 Here is my suggestion:

M-ALPANS ( Malayalee Male Alpans). It is gender neutral in case of woman
representing same castes of the mind. But they are numerically few.

Pls. utter MALPANS in malayalam. Not as easy as mallus.

If we secretely uttter thrice a day, begnning with morningcoffee/tea (as
the wife brings it), postr lunch ( after egotistic blast over colleagues
and extra perfomance with powe point (only MS), finsihing dinner ( after
making kid read all the stupid stuff), one will realize how "MALPANS" are we
and perhaps transform ourselves at least while being at this group
discusion. Little bit flexible and listening.
