Please find attached the press coverage on condemning meeting held at
Kumbakonam on Bangalore incident.. The following newspapers published the
news today.

Brief translation: (Not very accurate)
On 20th October, the city's police arrested 5 hijras from a traffic signal
in Bengaluru. When people from Sangama, a Bengaluru-based human rights
organization which has been working for the rights of the sexual minorities
, went to the police station to find out the reason for the arrest, they
were not provided any information but were beaten up by Banashankari police
station.
On condemning this incident meetings are organised at national level in
cities like Bangalore, Kolkatta and New Delhi. Similarly a condemning
meeting was organized by Challenge, a Salem based federation of sexual
minorities and Lotus, a Kumbakonam based transgender organization near
Ghandhi park at Kumbakonam.
The meeting was presided over by Gowri Shankar, Secreatry of Challenge
Federation. Other sexuality rights activists and human rights organisations
in and around Thanjavur District joined the condemning meeting. Subha,
Manager of Lotus delivered special address. Many in their speech appreciated
and welcome the positive steps taken by the Tamil Nadu government towards
the welfare of transgenders such as formation of a welfare board, providing
health services, ration cards and free lands. It was insisted that the other
states in Nation to follow this positive approach that will help the
welfare of transgenders and other sexual minorities."
