It was a drizzling august morning in Hiroshima and Nagasaki when the two
cities became a ball of fire by the US atomic bombs . Dreams burnt , life
extinguished and roses became dark . Even though everything happened in a span
of seconds , it was a result of calculated hard work over a period of five
years by a man called Robert Oppenheimer , an American Physicist . Oppenheimer
was an intellectual who misused his intelligence and expertise for the
corporate establishment and power . There are many followers of oppenheimer in
India also , one being the well known Dr .Abdul kalam who believed that a
nation cannot progress without missiles and bombs . Like Abdul kalam and
oppenheimer , thousands of intellectuals works within their discipline but are
ready to use their expertise in anyway for the power politics of this country
. There is a growing tendency among the intellectuals to succumb their
aspirations to this power politics . They may be
doing this to earn for a living or maintain the status quo . But what they
really lack is the courage to speak the truth to power and to act as a
universal intellectual ( Noam Chomski being an example ).
As intellectuals are getting segregated on the basis of religion, caste and
shallow patriotism , there is no wonder why there is a growing insurgency
against humanity in this country .
