Is that really true? I find that a bit tough to believe - that the kerala CPM and AIDWA would not condemn Mangalore, Ram Sene etc. Why wouldn't they? You sure you're not exaggerating? I think many who would condemn Ram Sene etc, would still fall prey to 'morality' arguments in other cases where it's not the Sangh that's doing the attacking. Such as that rape case in Bantala, Kolkata years ago, where the Ganatantrik Mahila Samiti accused the women of being prostitutes and sleeping with 'anti-socials' (Tanika Sarkar wrote an article about that in EPW). Mostly, tho, i find little hesitation anywhere on the Left to outrightly condemn the Sangh's type of policing of women's behaviour, and also women's right to marry by choice. The discomfort, when it shows, is at the sexuality of women being expressed outside marriage. Years ago when I've heard awful moralising from some senior Nepal women activists (railing against 'western' clothes for women, for instance), and been incensed, i used to thank the Sangh in India for educating the women's movement and the Left here in India that cultural policing, banning jeans etc, is a fascist thing to do!
