*Dear Friends,* ** Anweshi has been a very important chapter in the history of women’s movements in Kerala. The organization was formed in 1993 by a group of activists who realized the need of a coordinated struggle for women’s cause with an aim of providing shelter, care and solace to the oppressed among them. Eventually, Anweshi branched out into different fields like counseling, legal aid, community work, short stay home for women, legal literacy programmes, seminars, advocacy work; and more importantly it has accomplished one of the biggest libraries for women in Kerala.
Anweshi’s success both as a centre for women and as a mouthpiece of social justice is the result of an incessant commitment of its team to work unitedly for a high-minded social reformation. Also, most importantly, we could achieve all these due to the consistent support given by friends like you, and fund providers like the UN Population Fund & Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, Mumbai. We are grateful that with this valuable assistance, we could transform Anweshi into an institution with a dedicated staff of twenty-five consisting of experts and activists. But nowadays, may be due to some inadvertent circumstances, we are not getting adequate funds to work in full-swing. Therefore, this organization, which has been a strong support base of hapless women, and many a time their children, is under the imminent threat of discontinuing its day to day activities due to lack of funds. It is also relevant to reveal that Anweshi does not get any support from religious authorities or merchants of spirituality or political parties, but otherwise, many a time has to face stiff opposition from these quarters. So, our close associates who realized the necessity of Anweshi to exist have asked us to reveal this grave situation and relevant facts to the civil society and request contribution and assistance from friends and well wishers. How can you help Anweshi in this effort for survival?
