The Citizens' Movement for Democracy and Peace (CMDP) Monday announced
series of programmes including a 48-hr long dharna (sit-in) to exert
pressure on the Constituent Assembly (CA) and the political parties to
pressure them to write the new constitution within May 28.

The CMDP is to organise rallies from different parts of the capital city on
Tuesday to remind the parties of the remaining 100 days they have for
promulgating the statute.

The civil society body will stage 48-hr long dharna in front of the CA
building at Naya Baneshwor starting 8 am on February 25.

Likewise, the CMDP will organise a mass gathering in front of the CA
building on 9th March to warn the CA members against missing the deadline to
promulgate the constitution.

Representatives from various professional organisations are set to join in
the pressure campaign.

Issuing a press statement Monday, the CMDP called upon the parties to go for
politics of consensus to ensure timely constitution and institutionalise the
federal republican order.

The CMDP also emphasised that the parties to abide by the peace agreement
and find a solution to the current political deadlock from the parliament.*
