.Perhaps it is not just a question of opening up dialogues capable of at least creating doubts in the minds of people as to their positions. Unfortunately, people often say one thing in confidence and just the opposite in public.. This dichotomy is best understood in the light of 'commonly accepted' patriarchal attitudes and the ensuing personal/political issues. The ambivalence toward women's claims for full citizenship is too conspicuous to miss. Hence, this seems to be the main roadblock in opening up dialogues. Publicly people will tell you that women are equal to men; but, then they will also whisper in your ears that our pride ,prestige and everything rest on virtuous women and that whoever dares not to conform to the prescribed role models, is worthy of being punished. Don't be too happy, If you come across someone who may roundly agree with what you say; because the very next moment he or she will be sensitized to the dangers of antagonizing the dominant attitudes; he/ she may even be threatened with ostracizing. As a result, you will sometimes even find that he/she is willing to accept the myth of 'the rogue couple'(in this case) and also willing to contribute to the myth in more sophisticated ways. I don't want to discourage people debating, by saying this. On the contrary, I certainly mean trying to see things in perspective.
