In the last 5 years the State's Gross Domestic Product (SGDP) has increased
from Rs.1.24 lakhs Crores to Rs.2.30 lakh Crores according to the latest
Economic
Survey of the Government. This is indeed a tremendous achievement which
comes to 17% compounded annual growth rate, on an average. A
special feature of our State GDP is that around 59% is contributed by
the service sector. It is encouraging to note that there has been an
all around revival in the agriculture and industrial sectors of the State in
the last 5 years. On the agricultural front both the extent of area
under cultivation
and productivity improved—a reversal of the declining trend since 1980s.
Industrial production also improved mostly due achievement of almost full
utilization of installed capacities at the wake of to improved demand and
most industrial products fetching a reasonable price in then market.

This development situation has to be sustained by bringing in
necessarycorrections to further
balace the sectoral contributions to the states economy and accordingly
streamline the developmenmt pattern of the different sectors of the
economy.

As regards IT/ITES development in the Sate, on account of its specific
geographical factors, education level of youngsters, quality of manpower
all contributed to enhanced growth of the sector. Unlike other neighboring
States, we have an IT development strategy pioneered by the Government and
collaborating private sector players

as a synergistic blend. Today we have 3 major IT parks and host
of subordinate parks at the district level, Technolodges and incubation
facilities for beginners. various locations. IT service exports have
crossed Rs.3800 crores and even during the recession hit days it
registered a higher growth rate compared to other IT dominant States.

The structure of IT development in Kerala indeed is fascinating. It is not
concentrated around major urbal centres. The decentralized mode of
development is supported by active involvement in IT skill development and
up gradation efforts. We may have to take the present growth paradigm to a
higher level of optimized operation and make IT developments more cost
effective and people friendly. The new development strategies call for the
inputs from various professionals who have hitherto contributed to the
development of industry in the State and also having exposure to the
developed economics and pioneering institutions abroad for future planning.

It is with this idea in mind that we propose to bring together professionals
actively involved in this field to get to know their considered views with
regard to future development of the IT/ITES sector in Kerala. This meeting
is envisaged a get together of professionals and practitioners in the IT
business to discuss strategies for future development of the sector in
Kerala Context.

*The meeting will take place at 5 PM on Saturday, 26th March 2011 at the AC
Conference Hall attached to the headquarters of the Ernakulam District
Co-Operative Bank at Kakkanad*.

As in all other walks of life, Kerala pose different kinds of problem with
regard to development challenges in all spheres. Such issues are
confronted by other Sates only decades later. This meeting and exchange of
ideas shall become a torch-bearer of future generation IT development for
the whole of India.

We invite you to the above meeting and request you to activity participate
in the discussions and contribute towards this end.
