Dear friends, Perhaps you are aware that many activists and media persons are disturbed about the way fabricated false charges are imposed on journalist K.K. Shahina. As a Tehelka reporter, Shahina exposed the fabrication of false cases on Madani and after that the State was after her. The local police charged false cases on her and after several months of efforts, she received a bail. However, she has to travel all the way from Cochin to Bangalore to report to the investigation officer every 15 days.
Many of us are convinced that it is high time that activists respond to the fabricated false cases on Muslims, Dalits, Christians, Adivasis and people's movements. It has come to a stage that even media persons like K.K. Shahina who is the Assistant Editor of Open Magazine are being victimised. . We believe that what is happening to Shahina is a gross violation of freedom of expression in this country. If the freedom of expression is not protected, the very pillars of democracy in this country may crumble.Therefore, we invite all like-minded media persons, activists and secular people to participate in a meeting to discuss this burning issue. We are happy to inform you that K. K. Shahina will be here on September 3rd to share her experiences.
