Dahal hits back at Baidya; says his posture on PLA keys handover violates
party policy

UCPN (Maoist) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said Friday that vice chairman
Mohan Baidya’s objection to the decision to hand over the keys of the
weapons containers to the Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) is
against the party’s policy.

“Vice chairman Baidya's statement is against the party policy as well as the
party’s previous decision. The party is saddened by his statement and urges
the party leaders, cadres, People’s Liberation Army and the general people
not go after his statement,” Dahal said in a statement.

Dahal also urged the party workers, PLA members and the general public not
to be provoked by Baidya’s posturing and urged them to show patience and
courage in support of the party’s official decision.

Dahal’s statement came after the hardliner Baidya faction publicly opposed
the handover of the keys of weapons containers to the AISC on Thursday.

The Baidya faction obstructed the vehicular movement in the capital and
elsewhere around the country for one hour in protest against the handover of
the container keys.

Baidya faction enforces nationwide chakka jam protesting handover of keys of
weapons containers

The hardliner faction of the UCPN (Maoist) led by vice chairman Mohan Baidya
has imposed a nationwide chakka jam or transportation strike Friday morning
to protest the party decision to hand over the keys of the weapons
containers of the seven cantonments to the Army Integration Special
Committee (AISC).

The Maoist activists of the Baidya faction hit the streets in many parts of
the country to enforce the chakka jam from 9:30 am to 10:30 am today.

They had gathered at major thoroughfares and roads in the capital including
Kalanki, Gongabu, Balaju, Chabahil, Maharajgunj, New Baneshwor, Kupandole,
Satdobato, Gwarko and obstructed vehicular movement for an hour demanding
withdrawal of the decision to hand over the keys of the arms containers.

Due to the obstruction, traffic movement was thrown out of gear for a while.

The activists close to the hardliner faction has also imposed similar chakka
jam in Chitwan, Sindhuli, Pokhara, Rolpa, Dang including other districts.

The Baidya faction has strongly condemned the decision of the party to hand
over the keys of the weapons containers at seven PLA cantonments and warned
of fresh stir if the "suicidal" decision is not immediately corrected. It
has also announced a torch rally in many parts of the capital and various
district headquarters today evening against the decision.

Meanwhile, the Baidya faction boycotted the party's emergency Standing
Committee meeting called at the party headquarters today morning protesting
against the decision to handover keys of the weapons containers.
