By Express News Service - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM 17th July 2013 10:08 AM The Koodankulam Anti-Nuclear Struggle Solidarity Samiti, Kerala, on Tuesday staged a protest in front of the Secretariat against the Centre’s nod for the commissioning of the Koodankulam Nuclear power plant. Expressing solidarity with the struggle at Idinthakarai in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu against the commissioning of the plant, the Samiti said that the people of the state were with those who protest for a noble cause. Inaugurating the protest, poet and social activist Sugathakumari urged the government to withdraw the decision to go ahead with the commissioning of the nuclear plant. She said that the Centre had gone forward with the decision without taking into account the genuine demands of the protestors. "No safety measures as recommended by the Supreme Court have been implemented at the plant. The people in and around Koodankulam are living in fear,’’ she said. Stating that the issue did not pertain to Tamil Nadu alone, Sugathakumari said that the protests against nuclear power plants should be strengthened. Koodankulam attained criticality last week, setting the stage for power generation before the end of August. Samithi convenor T Peter said that the agitation will be spread to the national level. V Harilal (Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishath), G R Subhash (SUCI), Salim Sait (Solidarity) Anto Alias (Kerala Swathanthra Matsyathozhilali Federation) and R Ajayan ( PUCL) were present among others. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Green Youth Movement" group.
