CPN-M won’t go to Constituent Assembly: CP
Gajurel<http://www.nepalnews.com/index.php/news/27743-cpn-m-won-t-go-to-constituent-assembly-cp-gajurel>

Vice-chairperson of CPN-Maoist, CP Gajurel said on Sunday that his party
will not join the Constituent Assembly regardless of the number of seats
which might be allocated to his party.

Gajurel’s view has landed at a time when some news reports have been saying
that his party is bargaining for 80 CA seats, which is equal to the seats
received by the third largest party, the UCPN (Maoist) in the new CA.

“The new CA is the continuation of the 25-points agreement, based on which,
the CA election was held. Our party, therefore, will not grant political
recognition to the CA,” Gajurel said speaking at a program organized by
Sambad Dabali in Kathmandu.

Commenting about forming a coalition with the UCPN (M), Gajurel said it is
not possible now. “They are raising the issue of election rigging. That is
not the matter of our concern,” he said.

On the CPN-M’s earlier proposal for a round-table conference, Gajurel said
it is still relevant. “Our stress is on holding a round-table conference,
which will forge consensus for a new constitution,” added he.

Despite repeated requests from all quarters, the CPN-M did not participate
in the CA election. Later, it was reported in media that they were
bargaining for CA seats.

Based on media reports, Nepali Congress and CPN (UML), the first and second
largest parties, dismissed such possibilities of granting CA seats to CPN-M.

“We long kept the door open for them so that they could participate in
election. But they did not. Now it is pointless if they are bargaining like
that,” said Jhalanath Khanal, chairperson of CPN (UML).

“We are in a process of forming a consensus government. Our efforts will be
to incorporate a large number of parties,” Khanal added.
