UCPN (M) Convention: Dahal comes across sharp criticism; asks for time to furnish replies<http://www.nepalnews.com/index.php/top-story/34049-ucpn-m-convention-dahal-comes-across-sharp-criticism-asks-for-time-to-furnish-replies> Published on Sunday, 04 May 2014 13:58 UCPN (Maoist) chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal has come under the scanner of the party's cadres in the ongoing national convention of the key opposition party on Sunday, as Dahal said he would be able to reply all queries against him on Monday only. The party cadres, divided into 22 groups, opined that there are more internal than external reasons for the mess of the party. They further said the party needs to address the issues of massive corruption when the Maoist combatants were placed in the UN monitored cantonments as a part of the peace process. "Leaders of 22 groups have completed putting forth their views. The chairperson will reply to them all on Monday only," said the party's spokesperson Dinanath Sharma, following postponement of today's convention until tomorrow (Monday). On Sunday evening, a meeting of the central committee was also convened to discuss the grave issues raised by the party cadres. The ongoing national convention is expected to endorse the existing leadership of chairperson Dahal with minor changes. However, some party cadres have also proposed an election so as to elect a new leadership. The question of selecting leadership through consensus or holding an election will be decided soon, it is learnt. Meanwhile, UCPN (M) senior leader Baburam Bhattarai has left the national convention in the midway today. "Bhattarai fell ill during the convention. It's not true that he boycotted the party convention," added speaker Sharma. Bhattarai is a potential contender of Dahal, if an election is held for the party's top post. However, it is unlikely that Bhattarai would defeat Dahal in the election. Dahal enjoys strong party base than Bhattarai, according to insiders. -- Peace Is Doable -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Green Youth Movement" group.
