Studies on slums have proved that, when a land less rural migrant enters an urban area (with no place to live), he would look out for a piece of unguarded government land/ low lying areas and build a temporary structure. He wouldn't build a permanent structure to avoid the threat of eviction from authorities. He would continue living in that temporary structure for few years and acquire an electric connection and a water supply connection on his name. Later, he would acquire a possession certificate from the revenue authorities and finally a patta. This is roughly a chronological order of formation of slum. This process would take about 2 to 3 decades. Until one gets a patta, the inhabitants living in slums live under a constant threat of eviction. But, after getting the patta they will kick out any authority (government/ private) which claims the ownership of the land. People who live in slums are most poor, helpless and lack opportunity. They create slums as there is no other way of survival. Now, replace the terms - government land with AoC, slum dwellers with Ms. Roy and the publisher. You will imagine what can happen to Annihilation of caste in 2-3 decades if this issue is neglected. Blaming the error on a proof reader/ machine is the most intelligent of robbing. Probably, the safest to rob. Since they are caught, they are blaming this on some software. But, if this was unnoticed, Ms. Roy would have immediately emerged as a giant in dalit studies.
