Since last night social media has been used to create divisions within
Aam Aadmi Party and to spread canard against Sh Prashant Bhushan &
Yogendra Yadav. Here are the allegations (listed in red) and the
facts. Annexures follow. Would be happy to supply any additional
information.

Facts about slander campaign being run against Yogendra Yadav and
Prashant Bhushan
1. Post-Lok Sabha, when AAP and AK was down and out, YY targetted him
personally and resigned publicly. Instead of a discussion on his
failures in Haryana and rest of India because of his failed surveys,
YY put the onus of AK. In fact YY had told the party that in Haryana,
AAP would get 23% of the vote but it got only 4%. In fact, the trioka
of PB-YY-Shanti Bhushan is the one that kept pressing the party to
contest more and more lok sabha seats.

FACT:
1A: YY resignation did not blame AK for the defeat. At no stage,
formally or informally did YY or PB blame AK for Loksabha 2014 defeat.
Indeed YYs letter of resignation did not even refer to the Lok Sabha
results and fixing of blames. (Attached: YY’s letter)
1B: During Lok Sabha elctions, YY did not conduct any Survey for the
party. Infact the party did not have money to conduct an All India
survey. Will anyone produce any email or PPT to prove otherwise?
1C: YY engaged Cicero on behalf of the party to conduct surveys in
Haryana and UP in January-February 2014. In UP it showed that the
party was nowhere in the reckoning. In Haryana the survey was done
before Delhi resignation and showed AAP at 22% votes, a fact confirmed
by other independent polls at that time. As in delhi, the party’s
fortune in Haryana took a nose dive after the resignation in Delhi.
Infact all this survey data and analysis were shared in a meeting with
all the LS candidates on 5-6 July.
1D: At no stage did YY nor PB advocate contesting 400 plus seats. In
the aftermath of success in Delhi election YY had submitted a strategy
paper that advocated contesting about 100 seats(All seats in Delhi,
Haryana and Punjab, All seats in NCR and other Metro areas and
symbolic contests outside that). The suggestion about contesting
nearly all the seats was made by Sri Shanti Bhushan in the NE meeting
conducted on 2-3 January. This was unanimously approved by the NE
including by AK himself. Infact AK endorsed the suggestion in the
meeting by saying “Lets go for Broke”. Since the proceedings of this
meeting were recorded, will the party please release the recording to
confirm facts about this matter in that meeting.

2. In July, Shanti Bhushan wrote to AK and asked him to resign as
National Convenor. At several occasions, PB and his father have made
it known that they want AK to step down as national convenor.
3. In August, when NE unanimously took the decision not to contest
Haryana, stories were planted against AK in the media and he was
personally targetted. Recording of journalist admitting that YY
planted the story was played at NE. Here is that story targeting AK
and Party, published in The Hindu:

FACT:
Entire allegation is based on one clandestine phone recording with the
journalist who wrote this article. She does not refer to the fact that
the breakfast meeting was attended by two other journalist. Why did
the other journolists not run stories that YY was allegedly planting?
Why did she hold these disclosures for more than two weeks? What was
the context of this conversation? Was she threatened with Legal action
and resorted to YY’s name as an alibi? Her version of the meeting has
been challanged by a senior Journalist Mr. SP Singh (Woking with news
channel ) who was present at the breakfast on 15th of August. He
email says “Let me tell you that I too had recd a call from people in
your party soon after that story had appeared in The Hindu. This
fellow wanted to know what YY had talked about etc and since there
wasn't much to tell, I merely stated the facts. He had then asked me
about the contents of the Hindu story and I told him that the
journalist clearly would have other sources. It is only with this
twenty-twenty hindsight wisdom that I know understand what he was
fishing for. I hope my conversation was also not recorded, or perhaps
it was and was not found suitably juicy!”. Within a week of these
allegations YY had written to the lokpal requesting him to carry out
an investigation into the facts of the case. The Lokpal did not deem
it fit to do so. I am sure YY would be happy if the lokpal were to
conduct an enquiry.

4. From May to October 2014, when Delhi AAP organisation was being
built, Prashant and YY openly supported a dissident group called AVAM.
Shanti Bhushan issued 2 videos in support of AVAM which openly fought
with AK and official Delhi team. On the eve of VS elections, it was
clearly proved that AVAM was working for BJP and some of its members
had joined BJP.

FACT:
Neither PB nor YY ever joined SB in supporting AVAM. There is not a
shred of evidence linking YY to AVAM. AVAM leader contacted YY (Infact
he immediately brought it to AK’s notice) but YY refused to join their
cause. PB dealt with AVAM in his capacity as chairman of National
disciplinary committee, since Karan appealed to the National
Disciplinary Committee against his expulsion. PB found out that one
critical evidence used to expel Karan Singh was a forged SMS and
insisted that the pary should track down the source of the said SMS.

5. After NE had clearly said that AK would get a free hand and also
decide candidates of Delhi, Prashant and YY started interfering with
the candidate selection. Every new entrant who became a candidate was
targeted. 6. When YY and PB realised that AAP was on the verge of
doing well, a dozen candidates were targetted but Lokpal found only 2
allegations to be true. Even after those candidates were changed,
Shanti Bhushan went public in order to damage AAP's electoral
prospects.

FACT:
PB and YY did not interfere with AK’s decisions regarding Delhi
campaign. In their capacity as members of PAC, the body incharge of
selection of candidates, PB and YY insisted that the full information
of the background of the candidates must be shared with PAC members,
that background of candidates coming from other parties should be
thoroughly examined, that volunteer voting on candidate must be held
in a fair and transparent manner, that the bio data of all candidate
should be placed on the website for public feedback before
finalization of names.
PB and YY received a number of serious complaints against many of our
candidates. They referred 12 of these cases to the Lokpal for final
decision. The Lokpal exonerated only 4 of them unconditionally. 6 of
these candidates were given a conditional clearance due to shortage of
time. The Lokpal has asked the secretary to serve warning to these six
even after they have been elected. In two cases the allegations were
so grave that the lokpal ordered immediate cancellation of
candidature on the eve of nomination

7. By first week of January, AAP's internal survey began to show a big
lead, immediately YY increased his TV appearances from once in a 2/3
days to 2/3 times a day. Clearly, he wanted to be seen as one of the
winning team.

FACT:
Parties internal surveys showed a 3% lead for AAP in end December. YY
did all the duties assigned to him including daily Media Strategy,
Media Conference call and Media Appearances as and when required.
Since the media had more time for election coverage in the last month
leading to the election the appearances increased proportionately.

Anupam
