Vizhinjam Transit Harbour Project is an ecological, economic and social disaster for Kerala.It is too obvious that Kerala Government is going to lose money in a major way and this money belongs to the people of Kerala. The only forces who will economically benefit from this idiotic project will be Adani (when Kerala Government has promised sell a major area to him by investing for him with practically no returns), real estate groups and mining mafia. Fisher folk will lose in a major way. Beyond economics, it will threaten the lives of fisher folk in several villages in Thiruvananthapuram district. The project is planned next to a region with intense bio diversity in the sea.Two hills from the western Ghats will be mined to fill the sea for kilometers - an idea which represents the height of foolishness.Kovalam beach will be wiped out. Thomas Isaac has rightly said that there are reasons to suspect that the way it is being pushed completely on Adani's terms exposes the suspicious character of the project. Due to these reasons, environmentalists, trade unions in the fisheries sector, sensitive people in political parties, human rights groups and all democratic forces must come together to save Kerala from this disasterous project.
