Bihar Polls: Grand Alliance releases 10 minute film showing NDA government's alleged backtracking on major poll promises By PTI | 1 Oct, 2015, 05.39PM IST PATNA: Sharpening its attack on rival NDA, the Grand Alliance today released a video clip showing the alleged backtracking of Narendra Modi government on major poll promises including bringing back of blackmoney stashed abroad and giving every citizen Rs 15-20 lakh from it. The 10-minute long audio-visual clip titled 'Jumlon Ki Jubani, Jhooth ki Karistani' was shown to mediapersons at a joint press conference hosted by JD(U), RJD and Congress here. Congress spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala, JD(U) spokesman Pawan Verma and his RJD counterpart Manoj Jha hosted the press conference together. Incidently, the event took place an hour before Union Finance minister Arun Jaitley released BJP vision document for Bihar poll. The short film showed how Narendra Modi government failed to implement its key poll promises such as distribution of Rs 15-20 lakh each to citizen from blackmoney brought back to the country, giving input cost plus 50 per cent as Minimum Support Price (MSP) to the farmers. The film also highlighted the change in NDA government's position on key issues like GST and Land Acquisition legislation from its earlier stand. "They (BJP) made plenty of promises with the people of the country (during Lok Sabha polls). What happened to those promises? The country is asking when the 'achche din' will come or will they make people fool once again after November 8," Surjewala told reporters. "What happened to the promises made 16 months ago by the BJP?" the Congress spokesman asked. Varma said that there must be some co-relation between words and deeds. "It should not be the case that parties should forget the poll promises after winning elections. People should be aware of such parties which make hollow promises....This the trust which is important in democracy and if that goes, everything goes," Varma said. Giving strength to RJD chief Lalu Prasad stand on reservation in the wake of comment of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on need for its review, RJD spokesman Manoj Jha said that BJP leaders' repeated assertions that quota would continue for SC, ST and OBC creates "a kind of doubt about their intention." "Will BJP condemn RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat or will they seek a public apology from him for his statement for reviewing of reservation quota system?" Jha asked, and refused to accept the clarification issued by BJP leaders on the controversy. The Congress spokesman too questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence over RSS chief's view on reservation issue. In reply to a question regarding RJD chief raking up "backward versus forward castes fight" issue in the poll, the Congress spokesman was evasive in his reply and merely said the party was against any social confrontation on the basis of caste or religion. Surjewala also skirted a reply to a question on why the Congress did not grant special status to Bihar when the party was in power for 10 years saying "before UPA, the NDA was in power at the centre for five year." Asked about Congress leader Manish Tiwari agreeing with RSS' view point on the issue of review of job quota system, Surejwala said AICC in its manifesto released during 2009 and 2014 Lok Sabha elections had made it clear that there should not be any tinkering with the prevailing quota system for SC, ST and OBC. The three party leaders came down heavily on seven ministers in Modi government hailing from Bihar and highlighted their poor performance for the state. About Agriculture minister Radhamohan Singh, Surejwala said he failed to revive any of the 18 closed sugar mills in the state. About Ramvilas Paswan, he said the 115 procurement outlets started by FCI could not purchase paddy and maize forcing farmers to sell their produce at a "throwaway price" of Rs 800-900 per quintal against a MSP of Rs 1400 a quintal for paddy and Rs 1310 per quintal for maize. Information Technology minister Ravishanker Prasad could do little to improve teledensity in Bihar which lies at a lower level of 46.7 per cent whereas it is 78.7 at national level, the three asked. (Source: PTI) The BJP’s vision document for Bihar promises a shower of gifts, from a colour TV set for every Dalit and Mahadalit family to laptops for 50,000 meritorious students and 5,000 scooties for meritorious girls — JD(U) CM Nitish Kumar had introduced bicycles for girl students — besides five decimals land for every landless person, and a dhoti and a saree for every poor family. Releasing the document Thursday, Union minister Arun Jaitley attacked the grand alliance and held them responsible for Bihar’s economic backwardness. “It is our resolution to take Bihar out of economic backwardness,” said Jaitley, who also mocked the JD(U), the RJD and the Congress for mutual inconsistencies. “This opportunistic grand alliance is beyond the comprehension of people. How can there be an alliance between Lohia’s followers and the Congress? These parties, which have ruled Bihar for 68 years, have come together.” The BJP had shared power with Nitish but Jaitley said it had been as a “junior partner”. He predicted anarchy if the grand alliance wins. “There can be no other result but to push Bihar into anarchy if they win,” he said. “We see such political inconsistency, that is why we are seeing such a contradictory alliance. Asked about the many sops in the document, Jaitley said not all promises can be called populist, such as the education incentives for girls. The BJP seeks to upstage Nitish by addressing the Mahadalit constituency he has carved out. The promise of land appears to be an extension of the Mahadalit Vikas Scheme announced by Jitan Ram Manjhi as CM. Nitish’s government has distributed three decimals land to each of two lakh Mahadalit families. Where Nitish has pledged better power supply, the BJP assures 24-hour domestic supply.
