The human rights violations on Abdul Nasar Maudany still remain as a deep
question on the functioning of Indian democracy. He was arrested on August
17, 2010, adding him as the 31st person `accused’ to be involved in the
Bangalore blast case of 2008. Maudany’s name was not there in the first
list of the accused persons. However, it was added later. Following this,
he has undergone an imprisonment during the last 6 years as an `under
trial’. Using the clauses in the draconian law UAPA and the determination
of the Karnataka government to prolong the harassment, his fundamental
rights for his basic health care was also denied. It was only after a
consistent legal struggle for his health care, that the Supreme Court
ordered proper treatment for Maudany, considering the deteriorating
condition of his health.

Before this, Abdul Nasar Maudany had to spend nine and a half years as an
under trial as a result of the fabricated case connected with the
Coimbatore blast. However, the court found out that the accusations against
Maudany were baseless and that the case was a conspiracy by the prosecution
and the police to fabricate him. After realising this, Maudany was
released. The court had released him stating that he was innocent relieving
him from all the cases against him. However, the later developments tell us
that there are consistent efforts targeting Maudany, determined to harass
the rest of his peaceful life. Repeating the experiences of the Coimbatore
imprisonment, Adbul Nasar Maudany is now hunted again, undergoing an unjust
status of an under trial for the last six years.

It is now amply clear beyond doubt in front of the public that all the
accusations raised by the Karnataka police against Abdul Nasar Maudany are
fabricated. Many witnesses have already come out publicly against the
Karnataka police, saying that their statements against Maudany were
fabricated by the Karnataka police and pursued legal measures. It is clear
before any reasonable person to understand that the Maudany case is the
result of a conspiracy. In order to strengthen this weak case on Abdul
Nasar Maudany, the conspirators are now desperately trying to find new
avenues. It was only in this framework that Sharafuddin’s brother, Thasneem
was arrested, alleging threats and influences on the witnesses. This is
only an extension on the existing list of fabricated cases.

It is in this context that the Solidarity Youth Movement is organising a
solidarity sangama for the human rights of Abdul Nasar Maudany, marking the
completion of 6 years of unjust under trial period of Maudany, on August
17, 2016 in Kollam town at 4 pm. Many political and cultural personalities
will participate in the Sangama. Well known writer and human rights
activist BRP Bhaskar will inaugurate the sangama. We appeal to you to
strengthen and support this human rights sangama in this critical need of
the hour to strengthen and humanise Indian democracy.

We also appeal to all democratic and peace loving organisations and
citizens in this country to initiate symbolic and democratic actions for
the release of Abdul Nasar Maudany as well as other victims of the
draconian law UAPA. Perhaps you are aware, most of the targets and victims
of this law which violate the basic tenets of Indian Constitution have
always been minorities, Dalits, Adivasis and human rights activists.
Therefore, we appeal to you to do the best within your means through
organising public events, screening of the films on the same topic
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0eVXOZnpKg>, using the skills of writing
and other skills, sharing of information and publicising this issue in
support and solidarity with this common agenda of `RELEASE ABDUL NASAR
MAUDANY, REPEAL UAPA’.
