(Makes quite a few interesting points, even if one does not agree in toto.)

Sukla

Why do people who hate Hillary Clinton and the Democratic machine (for
torpedoing and crippling its progressive wing and not going with
Bernie) overlook what a rat Vladimir Putin is? Why can't we have a
serious, complex analysis? Isn't it possible that what is said about
Putin is true -- that he's the gangster leader of a ruthless
post-Soviet Union kleptocratic government eager to imperialistically
expand? Given Donald Trump's nature and history, of course the
Russians wanted him in the White House over Clinton. That seems a
no-brainer. Except now with all the flak directed at Trump over
contacts, their hopes are not being delivered so simply. Your last two
questions baffle me. "Russia helped Trump win the election" by using
cyber-war tactics to interfere in our incredibly corrupt and
preposterous election campaign -- and in the process specifically to
pile on the trashing of Hillary Clinton, which played into right-wing
Hillary hatred in the western and southern hinterlands of the USA, at
the expense of the eastern and mid-western inner cities where
Hillary's popular vote accumulated to no Electoral College effect.
That's the "kind of help" they gave Trump. I imagine no one was more
delighted and surprised at the Trump win than the Russians; this
"success" can only reinforce their efforts to stir up right-wing
reactionary votes in the future in Europe. I see it as having little
or nothing to do with "provoking Cold War strategies." It has more to
do with returning the world to a state of Social Darwinism reminiscent
of pre-WWII times when European colonial powers made "deals" with each
other and parsed up the world in an imperialistic fashion. Putin and
Trump are both, in their respective spheres, ruthless master
deal-makers and charismatic, authoritarian male public figures. In
this sense -- as an old-style male-power figure -- the Trump gang beat
Left Identity Politics at its own game. OK, maybe it's true that
hide-bound Democrats and Republicans are hopelessly mired in the Cold
War era. But the most important thing to think about concerning this
election seems to me that the Trump/Bannon Party (a truly successful
"third party") wants to jettison the burdensome, hide-bound Cold War
configurations and create new ones based on the idea of deals among
newly shaped, revanchist imperialistic powers -- like mobsters in a
city meeting to carve up the city. The operating principal behind such
cooperation is that there's enough money to go around; why waste it by
fighting among ourselves. Meanwhile, some in the Progressive Left seem
inclined to play into this scenario. Why? I don't know. Maybe because,
like the out-of-powerProgressive Left, Trump is a subversive force
inclined to overthrow the post-WWII coalitions the Left hates. If
that's true, we could be going from the frying pan to the fire and be
the first ones to be burned up. For me, Bernie is still the man with
the right message, one of evolutionary reform toward a better, more
dignified applied balance of capitalist incentive and cooperative
social contract.
